Posed at the southwest corner of Hampton Ave. and St. Louis St. She had been owned by the Henry Sheppard family who lived at 414 St. Louis St. Celia Sheppard lived with her son Sargent at 211 Hampton Ave. Sarge worked for the Anthony Tobacco Factory at 605 St. Louis St. The photo was given to Charles Sheppard's mother by Mary Dean Anthony. Note the clothing which was typical for slave women throughout the south. |
