8-1/2" x 11" color photocopy of a group of African-American school children and their teacher, seated and standing outside the school at Cave Springs MO. A group of newly freed African-Americans settled near Cave Springs after the Civil War and established a community there than lasted until the 1930's-1940's. The all-black school in the photo was in a church building, which was later made into a school. In the photo are (back row) Willie Rolands, Kate Rolands, Elton Ferguson (uncle of donor), Helen Richardson Kelley (b. 1894), mother of Frances Brewer who is sister-in-law of donor. The teacher was Maud Harvey. Names in the Cave Springs community were Ingram, Stroud, Roland, Ferguson, Richardson
