Oval gold nurse's pin with red enamel rectangle in center. SH TS 16 in white indicate that it is a 1916 pin from the Springfield Hospital Training School for Nurses, at 440 S. Market, the first in town. Later became Springfield Baptist Hospital, currently is Lakeland Hospital. Belonged to Helen Davies Bryant, mother of donor.

Black and white photo of the Springfield Orchestral Society (which later became the Springfield Symphony). The orchestra is seated on stage at Clara Thompson Hall, Drury College. Conductor James Robertson is standing at the podium near the center. The donor, Martha Delange Scharpf, played in the Springfield Symphony for many years.

Square grand piano made of rosewood, Empire style, bought ca 1852-1855 by John Baptist Beiderlinden, a native of Prussia who came to Springfield ca 1841-1843. John was a music teacher, Justice of the Peace (office 102 Public Square) an Assistant Assessor and Deputy Collector for the Internal Revenue. He and his wife Nancy Smiley had 11 children and are listed in the 1878 City Directory as living at 316 S. Ave. See accession file for more information.

Black and white Photo of southwest corner of the Public Square. On the south side we have Kresge Dime Store. Then moving along the west side there is Newberrys, F. W. Woolworth Co, Household Finance Co., and National Shirt Shop. A portion of College Street is shown with the Heers store barely visible. There are parking meters on the Square.

Letter of recommendation for Elwyn and Frank Bentley from E.D. Barclay, former Professor of Languages at Ash Grove College to Cecil F.P. Bancroft at Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass. Folder also contains note from Cecil K. Bancroft to "Bentley" dated May 12, 1930, returning the original letter.

Black and white photo of the State Normal School, 600 block S. Pickwick, c. 1906 large brick building with tower with five men standing near building. Founded in this building in 1894 as the Springfield Normal and Business College by J. A. Taylor. Became State Normal in 1906, which operated in this building at Pickwick Avenue and Cherrry Street until December 1908.

Looking south of Boonville St. toward the Public Square. On the left side there is Gottfried Furniture store. Next we have the Salvation Army. On the right side there is Sigl-r Drug Co., next is a barber college, next is a bakery and Carpenter Headquarters, ( both in the same building) and last is the Lines Music Co. Boonville St. is brick paved with parallel parking on both sides. Double street car tracks. On the right side of the street is a motor driven piece of Springfield Gas and Electric Co. equipment. 6.5 X 4.5 inches.

Sepia on board of a group of African American men, women and two children outside the Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Masonic group, possibly Eastern Star, Prince Hall, or Eureka or Truth Lodge. See copy in the permanent exhibit, or 1994-164-1, Black History Coll., B 1 F2. Photo found by donor in the Looney home at 1509 N Sherman.

White china leaf-shaped ashtray with gold edges. Painted in color with scenes of Springfield including public square, new library, City Hall, free Art Museum, Burge Hospital, Lily Cup building, Stone Chapel, Drury College. Title painted in black, "Springfield, Mo. Gateway to the Ozarks.
