Description/History:Black and white photo of the Springfield Gas and Electric Co. Manufactured gas storage tank. Located on North Main Avenue and West Water Street. The two story brick building in front of the storage tank used to be an old livery stable. On the left is a all-night restaurant. The sign on the building is asking people to cook with gas. On the right side of the picture is a cement block building which is a sand company. At this time North Main Avenue is brick paved; but the brick surface is beginning to break apart. There are electric street lights. The sign on the on the gas storage tank reads, " Cook with Gas " The gas storage tank would move up and down to increase the gas pressure.
