Description/History:Tan or off white woman's smock stayle jacket or opera coat. It has greenish-blue velvet trim around the neck edge. There are tucks around the neckline with applied chemical lace motifs and larger lace flowers with covered brown buttons. Two to three rows of running stitches gather fullness of jacet bodu and sleeves at the yoke seam. It has full sleeves with 3 inch wide suffs that has tucks, applied chemical lace motifs and brown velvet ribbon. There is net embroidery edging at the cuff. The yoke is lines with silk. There are four hooks for closure in the front. The tag in the back reads, "The name Heers stands for merit" This coat was worn by Mrs. Leander Cox. Her husband was a prominent doctor. She was the aunt of the donor and the mother of Eleanor Cox of Cox Station.
