Description/History:Black and white photo, a character portrait by Eleanor Cox of Oliver James Corbett, Springfield artist, 1886-1969. He was a decorator and contractor as well as a landscape artist. One of his Swan Creek landscapes was purchased by the Democratic National Committee to give to President Harry Truman in 1952 at the 35th division reunion. It is hanging over the piano in the Truman home in Independence MO. Corbett's painting of the public square, Court House, and Bell Tower is hanging in the History Museum office. It was painted from an old photo of the square.
